How to Choose a Desk Chair
Many people spend much of their day sitting in a desk chair and sitting improperly often leads to back pain and fatigue. There are some things to consider when looking for a new desk chair. Here's how to choose the right one to suit your needs.
- Firstly consider the seat of the chair. See if it has sufficient padding to distribute the weight of your hips and thighs and is wide enough for you to be comfortable. The front edge of the seat should curve downwards so that there isn't any pressure on the back of your legs. The seat should also be adjustable with controls that are easy to use from a sitting position.
- Lean back in the chair and check that there is adequate support for your lower and upper back. If you have back problems, choose a desk chair that has adjustable lumbar support.
- Decide what kind of arm support you need. If some of your work requires more freedom of movement, consider removable armrests. They should be short enough for you to slide your chair in close to the desk and positioned so that they support your arms while your shoulders are relaxed.
- Try out a variety of chairs made by different manufactures. There is a wide selection of styles and fabrics from which to choose. If you take the time to look around and test them out, you will be able to choose the desk chair that's right for you. At an arranged visit to an office furniture showroom you will be able to test out a variety of office chairs and be shown how to properly adjust them for maximum comfort.
